Wildcrafted in the Boreal Forest
Labrador Tea is a traditional northern plant with a long history of use across boreal and subarctic regions. Known by many names — Muskeg Tea, Bog Tea, and Labrador Tea — it grows low to the ground in peatlands, bogs, and muskeg, where few other plants thrive.
This aromatic evergreen leaf has been gathered for generations and prepared as a tea valued for its grounding scent, warming nature, and deep connection to the land.
A Tea of the North
Labrador Tea has long been part of northern life, especially in colder months when fresh plants were scarce. It was traditionally brewed lightly and enjoyed seasonally, often shared around the fire or during long winter days.
The flavour is distinctive — earthy, resinous, and softly herbal.
A little goes a long way.
How It’s Traditionally Prepared
Labrador Tea has been prepared in different ways depending on its purpose.
For everyday or therapeutic use, it is traditionally:
-
Brewed gently
-
Using 1–2 leaves per cup
-
With hot (not boiling) water
-
Steeped 5–10 minutes
This method creates a mild, aromatic tea meant to be enjoyed lightly and occasionally.
For traditional medicinal preparations, Labrador Tea was prepared differently:
-
Leaves were covered with boiling water
-
Then kept at a very low heat
-
And steeped for an extended period, often up to an hour
This stronger preparation was used intentionally and sparingly, with knowledge passed down through generations.
Today, most people choose the gentle brewing method.
