Resin-soaked bark built for reliable fire starting.
Made from spruce and pine bark naturally saturated with resin, saved from our own resin-processing work and repurposed into a practical firestarter for camp, bushcraft and cold-weather use.
Resin burns hot.
Spruce and pine resin naturally ignites readily and burns with sustained heat. The bark acts as a carrier, helping the resin burn long enough to catch kindling and small wood.
Keep a bag where you keep your outdoor gear.
The bark was too useful to throw away.
Filtering resin for our gum, soaps and balms leaves us with bark naturally coated in spruce and pine resin.
For years, we kept that material for our own outdoor fires. Resin fire-starting was already part of our family's camping, hiking and winter cookout routines long before Alberta Wildcraft existed.
Saving the bark simply made sense. Instead of discarding a useful byproduct, we dry it and turn it into the same practical firestarter we've used ourselves for years.
In 2025, we finally began offering them through Alberta Wildcraft.
One harvest, another purpose.
These firestarters give resin-soaked bark from our processing work a second use instead of sending it straight to waste.
It's a simple idea: use more of the material we've already brought home from the forest.
